This thesis describes a computer method for calculating the resonant frequencies of a brass wind instrument of arbitrary bore shape and dimensions, and the method is applied to a French horn. The importance of knowing the resonant frequencies is discussed, and some possible uses of the scheme are mentioned. The method consists of approximating the wind instrument bore by a series of incremental concatenated cylinders, calculating the input impedance of each increment from the radiation impedance at the bell outlet back to the inlet of the mouthpiece, and identifying the resonance frequencies as those for which the input impedance at the mouthpiece is relative maximum.
