Department Chairs change July 2019

Richard Van Fleet and Grant Hart finished their term as department chair and associate chair, respectively, in June 2019.  Under their leadership, the department saw a growth in the number of mentored of research opportunities, as evidenced by the tremendous increase in number of sessions at the Student Research Conference and students who co-authored journal articles.  We appreciated all their efforts to keep the department running smoothly and encouraging us all to keep progressing.

Our new department chair, Kent Gee, and his associate chairs, Eric Hintz and Scott Bergeson, began their new responsibilities in July 2019.  They are focusing on key priorities that will help the department grow in unity as we continue to enhance opportunities for students.   Some of the new items that will be highlighted in upcoming news stories include a new telescope on top of the ESC, new machining facilities, redesigned department office area, and new collaboration on a major telescope program.
